Do you want to keep audio playing whilst navigating through multiple pages? Create a persistent radio player so listeners will always stay connected to your station.
What’s a Persistent Radio Player?
A persistent radio player is essentially an audio player that follows around you whilst navigating a website and continually plays music. It’s a way for listeners to stay connected, even when bouncing from page to page.
Music websites like Mixcloud and TuneIn do this quite well. When tuning into a pre-recorded show or a live radio station, both play audio from a player at the bottom of the page.
Technical Hurdles & Headaches
One major problem with adding a player on every page is it’s difficult to do if you don’t know technical code. Persistent radio players need AJAX to pass streaming data from one page to another whilst keeping audio playing. There are a few options for creating a persistent radio player worth checking out:
All of these methods are rather technical and require you to get your hands dirty, but you don’t have to using a pop out radio player.
Using a Pop Out Radio Player
The Radio.co players now have an option to pop out so listeners can tune in another window. This way doesn’t require you to mess around with complex code on your website, instead, you just need to embed a small script on your page like this (just wrap in script tags):
src="https://embed.radio.co/player/f1dd923.js
If you click the arrow buttons in the top right corner of the player it pops out so you can stay tuned even whilst moving off the page. Not only is this easy to do, but people can stay connected when they leave your website.
If you’re already using the Radio.co player, you can enable this option in your Dashboard > Listen > Web Players > Settings. Just select the pop out option and save your player for the changes to apply.
If you’re not with Radio.co and you would like to create your own persistent radio player then you can with your 7-day free trial. Click the button below to get started.
