Are you looking for a good on-camera microphone? Building on the success of its predecessor, find out if the Rode VideoMic Pro+ is worth it for your setup.

Rode VideoMic Pro+ Review

Buy the Rode VideoMic Pro+ on Amazon USA or Amazon UK.

The Rode VideoMic Pro+ comes with everything you need to start using it with your camera, like the LB-1 rechargeable battery, 3.5mm TRS cable, and micro USB cable.

The first thing you’ll notice is it’s quite big for a shotgun microphone, but feels lightweight. The shock system keeps it in place and is great at controlling vibrations and noises, so it prevents unwanted sounds when moving it about.

Old vs New

The Pro+ is actually a new and improved version of the popular VideoMic Pro. It looks similar from the outside, but has some much-needed upgrades like automatic power switching.

VideoMic Pro vs VideoMic Pro+

For example, the Pro+ will turn on when plugged into the camera or switch itself off when unplugged. Plus, it has an impressive 10 hours of battery life, so it’s perfect for run ‘n’ gun filming.

Cool New Features

One of the best new features of this mic is its advanced audio options. With the high-pass filter switched on it reduces low-frequency audio like far away noises.

It also has a safety channel which helps ensure the signal doesn’t clip from unexpected loud sounds, so if you were filming outside near a road it will reduce car noises.

Rode VideoMic Pro+ Verdict

Overall, the Pro+ is a good quality on-camera microphone. It’s a bit more convenient and practical than the original Pro as it saves time when shooting. We’ll definitely be using it a lot here for future videos.
