Have you ever wanted to sound amazing on air? How do DJ’s sound so professional? Well we’ve put together a simple 3 step guide to help you achieve that great radio voice.
Get to Know Your Voice
The most important thing you can do is GET TO KNOW YOUR VOICE! Keep the following in mind:
- You can't change your voice, so try and sound natural.
- Speak conversationally and don't rush.
- Be clear and concise so you sound friendly and approachable.
- Hone your craft by broadcasting on air and recording demos - Practice makes perfect!
Get to Know Your Microphone
Avoid poor quality microphones, usually they’re PC headsets you can find almost anywhere. They’re great for talking to people on Skype, but they’re not really designed for great radio broadcasting tools.
Start by checking out the Behringer B-1 as a basis - Alternatively look into some other great microphones for online radio here.
Use *Some* Audio Processing
Audio processing is a great way to give your voice a little bit more punch and added presence. Every single commercial radio station uses audio processing to enhance the presenter’s vocal presence.
You can buy a specific microphone processor like the DBX 286S which is a great budget option and adds a real loudness to your voice - Find the full review here.
