SHOUTcast Closing Down Radio Stations?!
Broadcasters have received word SHOUTcast are closing down radio stations, opting to drop the plan for small scale community stations. So what now?
In a surprising turn of events, SHOUTcast have announced they're closing down radio stations. On Wednesday 9th March, stations on the 'Business' plan will be deactivated in 1 month's time.
Why is SHOUTcast Closing Radio Stations?
This isn't the first time SHOUTcast have put broadcasters in hot water. Back at the start of 2020 radio hosting provider Radionomy and SHOUTcast merged, 8,000 stations were left without a home.
But this time around, SHOUTcast plan to drop support for broadcasters suited to small scale radio stations.
We will no longer offer the option to host small scale radio stations. Thus, Shoutcast for Business plan is replaced by the Basic plan.
The good news is broadcasters can move to their basic plan. The bad news is it offers limited functionality. And to further rub salt in the wound not everyone is eligible for a refund, or there are long wait times.
Allow us a month of delay regarding refund (if you are eligible), and revenue’s payment.
SHOUTcast's Statement in Full
According to multiple reports, SHOUTcast have released the following statement.
"Dear loyal customers,
For the past 15 years, through Radionomy and Shoutcast, we have been able to witness a unity and a real passion for our product, which honors us greatly.
Because we are constantly evolving, we have decided to adapt our commercial offer to better meet professional radio's expectations. Along that line, we will no longer offer the option to host small scale radio stations. Thus, Shoutcast for Business plan is replaced by the Basic plan.
Your account will therefore be deactivated in one month. We invite you to cancel it before April 9 in the "Manage your plan" tab.
This is just the beginning! We plan to come back with a stable solution. To know all the progress of this project, we invite you to register via  this form. We will also be reaching out with hosting solutions from our trusted partners in the coming weeks.
The product team underwent a complete overhaul of its processes, so please allow us a month of delay regarding refund (if you are eligible), and revenue’s payment.
